About RainMap
RainMap delivers pre-computed hourly and daily rainfall totals for the United Kingdom alongside on-demand accumulation tooling and a documented API. Powered by Met Office NIMROD radar, it gives analysts and developers a dependable UK rainfall interface with 60-day rolling live coverage and historical aggregates beyond that window.
Data source
RainMap consumes the Met Office NIMROD rainfall radar dataset, distributed through the Centre for Environmental Data Analysis (CEDA) archive. NIMROD provides UK-wide, high-resolution mosaics derived from the national radar network so every product in RainMap inherits authoritative coverage.
- Spatial resolution 1 km²
- Temporal frequency 5 minutes
- Coverage window UK – Land only
Data licence
The underlying NIMROD data is provided by the UK Met Office and re-used here under the Open Government Licence v3.0 . Review the licence for attribution requirements, usage constraints, and downstream obligations.
How RainMap works
RainMap ingests NIMROD radar tiles every few minutes, converts them into uniform GeoTIFF products, and pre-computes hourly and daily accumulation layers. Custom time windows are generated live through the same API that powers the Accumulation page.
